Support Services
While the treatment for HIV and AIDS has improved, the lives of people who are infected and affected remain dramatically changed forever. The team of Support professionals provide individual or group counseling, testing support, food programs, vitamins and supplements, complimentary therapies, referrals, and many other tangible programs focused on providing the specialized support that someone affected by HIV/AIDS faces.
Practical Support
- Vitamins/Supplements Program - To ensure clients maintain optimum health, vitamins and supplements are provided as needed.
- Complementary Therapies - To help clients improve quality of life, alternative therapies are offered including (but not limited to) yoga, massage therapy, shiatsu, acupuncture and ear candling.
- Food Assistance Program - The Support team assists clients in accessing food through three programs: Food Bank, The Good Food Box Program (in partnership with The Good Shepherd) and the One Pot Meal Program.
- African/Caribbean Community Outreach Program - In partnership with other service providers, we consult with the African and Caribbean communities to develop and provide HIV information. The goal of this program is to help people understand the importance of protecting themselves and others by recommending testing and encouraging HIV prevention.
Counselling Support
- Counseling - The trained and experienced Support team provides counseling in a safe, caring and confidential environment. Workshops provide opportunities for people in similar situations to meet, share thoughts and discuss concerns.
- Benefits Counseling and Advocacy - The Support team provides assistance with understanding, completing and accessing government benefits.
- Referrals - We have developed strategic partnerships with a wide range of community agencies and primary health care providers and link individuals to the most appropriate service provider in their community.
- Prison Outreach Support Program - In partnership with other AIDS Service Organizations, services are provided to those who are incarcerated and require support.
- Long Term Survivor's Support Group - This group is meant for people that are living with HIV/AIDS for a long time (10+ years) and meets every month to discuss a wide range of issues.
