AIDS Education / Women's Community Outreach
The Women's Community Outreach Program is a community development approach to identifying current issues facing women in Canada and to developing effective ways to prevent women from acquiring HIV. Funded by the AIDS Bureau of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, this Program is one of 15 Ontario-based programs which will raise awareness and inform local communities and woman-centered agencies about the need for women's HIV education and prevention services. The Women's Community Outreach Program identifies issues facing women and HIV in Canada with a focus on education and prevention. Focusing on the social determinants of health (i.e. gender, race, ethnicity, class, ability), the Women's Community Outreach Program facilitates a pro-active community response via outreach to social service agencies and encourages the development of local advocacy planning committees. Our objective is to build the knowledge and capacity of local communities to respond to women's HIV/AIDS education, prevention and support needs. |
